This is the first in a series of four modules, the first three of which are video modules, that provides a comprehensive review of the types, options, features, and appropriate use of potential seating solutions, as well as how to match them to specific seating needs. The modules were developed from a series of presentations by Elizabeth Cole at VGM Group, Inc.s 2012 Heartland Conference. Learning objectives:

  1. List the goals for seating and positioning interventions;
  2. Describe the position and orientation of the pelvis, trunk and lower extremities in ideal sitting posture;
  3. Discuss the pros and cons of a 90/90/90 seated posture;
  4. Describe the anatomical shapes and angles that should be considered in the provision of seating interventions and their corresponding equipment components;
  5. Discuss the features, benefits and trade-offs for sling upholstery, linear seating, contoured seating and custom molded seating;
  6. Describe the characteristics of an appropriate user for sling upholstery, linear seating, contoured seating and custom molded seating.
To successfully complete this module, you must attain a minimum score of 80% on the final exam and complete the module training survey.
