Before recommending wheeled mobility and seating interventions, a thorough evaluation of the individual should be performed.This evaluation includes a client interview, a physical and functional evaluation, and an environmental assessment. The mat evaluation is one step in the physical evaluation of the individual. It is recommended that you complete the course SEAT001 - The Biomechanics of Seating before taking this course.

Learning objectives:

  1. Identify what force is eliminated in the supine portion of the mat evaluation and why this is important;
  2. Identify the types of deformities that might be present in the pelvis and describe/demonstrate the proper way to assess for them;
  3. Identify the types of deformities that might be present in the trunk and describe/demonstrate the proper way to assess for them;
  4. Identify the movements that should be assessed in the lower extremities and describe/demonstrate the proper way to assess for them;
  5. Identify what force is re-introduced in the sitting portion of the mat evaluation and why this is important;
  6. Demonstrate how to assess for the amount and location of support an individual requires to achieve his/her optimal seated posture.
It is recommended that you complete the course SEAT001 - The Biomechanics of Seating before taking this course.

To successfully complete this course, you must attain a minimum score of 80% on the final exam and complete the course training survey.
