MOB008a - Medicare Reimbursement for Wheeled Mobility and Seating Products - Part 1

This is the first of a two-part series of courses that present an in-depth look at Medicares clinical coverage criteria and documentation requirements for wheeled mobility and seating products. This course presents an in-depth look at Medicares criteria and documentation requirements for manual wheelchairs and wheelchair seating. The second part of this series will present similar information for scooters, power wheelchairs and push-rim power assist systems.

Learning objectives:

1. List the clinical coverage criteria that an individual must meet to qualify for any mobility assistive equipment (MAE);
2. List the clinical coverage criteria that an individual must meet to qualify for any manual wheelchair;
3. List the additional clinical coverage criteria that an individual must meet to qualify for a standard, standard hemi, lightweight, high strength lightweight, ultra lightweight, heavy duty and extra heavy duty manual wheelchair;
4. List the clinical coverage criteria that an individual must meet to qualify for a general use seat cushion or back support, a skin protection cushion, any kind of positioning cushion or back support, and a custom seat and back support;
5. List at least six additional risk factors for skin breakdown and postural asymmetries. To successfully complete this course, you must attain a minimum score of 80% on the final exam and complete the course training survey.
