This course will walk you through the process of choosing the appropriate type of power wheelchair base, static seating and drive wheel position for each individual. We will also briefly discuss the appropriate choice and use of different types of scooters.

Choosing the most appropriate power wheelchair for each individual can be a daunting task today considering the myriad different types of products available with all of the various features and options. This course will walk you through the process of choosing the appropriate type of power wheelchair base, static seating and drive wheel position for each individual. We will also briefly discuss the appropriate choice and use of different types of scooters.

Learning objectives:

1. Identify at least 10 key pieces of information that should be gathered from an initial evaluation for power mobility;
2. Identify the basic criteria that an individual should meet to qualify for power mobility;
3. Identify the basic features of a Group 1, Group 2, Group 3, Group 4 and Group 5 power wheelchair and how they differ from one another;
4. Identify at least four basic criteria that an individual should meet to be appropriate for each of the different types of power wheelchairs listed in objective #3 above;
5. Identify the three different types of drive wheel positions and their differences with regards to maneuverability, traversing up and down inclines, climbing an obstacle and tracking.

To successfully complete this course, you must attain a minimum score of 80% on the final exam and complete the course training survey.
