Disease processes, medical conditions and traumas can be categorized as either progressive or non-progressive. Non-progressive conditions are ones in which the disorder itself does not cause further or ongoing changes in medical, physical or cognitive health. These conditions are usually caused by a traumatic event, although some are due to congenital disorders. This course will present an overview of non-progressive orthopedic disorders, including Osteogenesis Imperfecta, Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita and amputations.

Learning objectives:

  1. Identify the cause of Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI);
  2. List the major symptom of OI and its potential consequences;
  3. Identify the major factors that should be considered when choosing seating and wheeled mobility devices for the individual with OI;
  4. Identify the suspected cause of Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC);
  5. List the major symptom of AMC and its potential consequences;
  6. Identify the major factors that should be considered when choosing seating and wheeled mobility devices for the individual with AMC;
  7. Define the different classifications of upper and lower extremity amputations;
  8. Discuss the major factors that should be considered when choosing seating and wheeled mobility devices for the individual with lower extremity amputations.
To successfully complete this course, you must attain a minimum score of 80% on the final exam and complete the course training survey.
