This course will present an overview of non-progressive conditions that affect the brain, including traumatic head injury, cerebral palsy and cerebral vascular accident (stroke).
Learning objectives:
- List and describe the three types of traumatic brain injury (TBI);
- Describe the range of potential effects of a TBI on muscle strength and motor control;
- List at least five other potential effects of a TBI;
- Discuss the range of seating and mobility devices that might be used following a TBI and factors that should be considered in their provision;
- Identify the pathology that causes cerebral palsy (CP) and describe the different types of CP;
- Describe the range of potential effects of CP on muscle strength and motor control;
- List at least five other potential effects of CP;
- Discuss the range of seating and mobility devices that might be used by a person with CP and factors that should be considered in their provision;
- List the cause and different types of cerebral vascular accident (CVA);
- Describe the typical effects and recovery progression of a CVA;
- Discuss the range of seating and mobility devices that might be used following a CVA and factors that should be considered in their provision.
