DIS002 Non-Progressive Disorders Affecting the Brain

This course will present an overview of non-progressive conditions that affect the brain, including traumatic head injury, cerebral palsy and cerebral vascular accident (stroke).

Learning objectives:

1. List and describe the three types of traumatic brain injury (TBI);
2. Describe the range of potential effects of a TBI on muscle strength and motor control;
3. List at least five other potential effects of a TBI;
4. Discuss the range of seating and mobility devices that might be used following a TBI and factors that should be considered in their provision;
5. Identify the pathology that causes cerebral palsy (CP) and describe the different types of CP;
6. Describe the range of potential effects of CP on muscle strength and motor control;
7. List at least five other potential effects of CP;
8. Discuss the range of seating and mobility devices that might be used by a person with CP and factors that should be considered in their provision;
9. List the cause and different types of cerebral vascular accident (CVA);
10. Describe the typical effects and recovery progression of a CVA;
11. Discuss the range of seating and mobility devices that might be used following a CVA and factors that should be considered in their provision.

To successfully complete this course, you must attain a minimum score of 80% on the final exam and complete the course training survey.
