This unit discusses the treatment and follow-up phase of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) intervention. Stages of intervention from initial setup and goal planning to ongoing screening for need are discussed, as is troubleshooting and repair.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to: 

  1. State at least two members of the AAC intervention team.
  2. State the purpose of the SGD initial training session.
  3. State at least one benefit and drawback of each of the three primary AAC treatment models.
  4. State at least one adjustment that may be needed to an AAC system over time. 
  5. Identify the difference in a warranty and funded repair.
