This unit provides an introduction to augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). In addition to an overview of AAC levels, information regarding diagnoses for use and assessment of need is provided.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- State at least three diagnoses commonly associated with the need for AAC.
- State the difference in low-tech and high-tech AAC.
- Identify at least two elements of feature matching during the AAC evaluation process.
- List items needed as a part of an SGD funding packet.
- Identify the role of related professionals beyond the SLP in assessment for AAC.
